Gifted Education
I attended the ultimate in geek schools for my final two years of high school -- The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities. I got labeled as "gifted" early on, but I swear I was just the token "normal" kid at this school filled with geniuses. I could float between social groups (I was a jock, a band geek, a nerd, a rebel (ok, that's a stretch, but I was better friends with the smoker types than other groups), etc, etc, etc) and had probably just slightly higher than average learning abilities...
Some people from this school have gone on to do some outrageously impressive things (my class alone has 3 (maybe 4) rocket scientists, inumerable doctors and a whole myriad of people who can attach multiple letters after their names from their multiple degrees). One of my favorite graduates of my high school is someone I've never met, but I enjoy reading her works.
Laura Vanderkam is a writer for USA Today and Reader's Digest. She's also an author and co-author and has a blog devoted to gifted education. She's smart and interesting all at the same time. She just had a baby about 2 weeks ago and is still keeping up with her blog -- I'm not sure how she manages...
